Goldbelt Tram. The adventure begins at the cruise ship dock in downtown Juneau where you board the Goldbelt Tram, the number one attraction in Juneau. Adorned in traditional Tlingit artwork, The Goldbelt Tram whisks guests from Sea Level to SEE Level, 1,800 ft above historic downtown Juneau. The 5-minute ride travels through the temperate rainforest terrain to the alpine above.
On the mountain, you’ll be greeted by world class views of the Gastineau Channel. At the top is the Mountain House, which is home to Goldbelt Tram Gifts and Gallery, the Timberline Bar and Grill, and the Chilkat Theatre. Outside, you can enjoy a cold beer at the Tr’Ale House or hike around the Totem Loop Trail.
Goldbelt Tram Gifts and Gallery isn’t your typical gift shop, it’s also part museum and gallery. Choose from a wide selection of quality clothing and souvenirs. Then, step into the gallery for handmade Alaska Native art and authentic original jewelry including hand-etched silver, copper, and fossilized ivory.
At Timberline Bar & Grill, enjoy a signature cocktail or choose from many locally brewed beers on tap. As an appetizer, start things off with the renowned Alaskan Crab Nachos. Once comfortably settled, treat your taste buds to a menu showcasing the best from the icy waters, including tender wild salmon, sweet Alaskan crab, and flavorful halibut. Beyond the seafood bounty, Timberline Bar & Grill boasts a diverse menu that caters to all tastes. From sizzling steaks and mouthwatering burgers to vibrant vegetarian and gluten free options, there’s something for everyone.
The Chilkat Theatre is where you can view the award-winning film “Seeing Daylight”. Set against the backdrop of the Tlingit heritage, this 18-minute cinematic masterpiece unfolds the rich tapestry of their traditions, struggles, and triumphs. The film is a testament to the resilience of the Tlingit people. The film plays every half hour, providing guests ample opportunities to immerse themselves in captivating storytelling. After exiting the theatre, you may see a resident Chilkat weaver at the loom making a robe using ancient and modern techniques. You may also catch a glimpse and get whiff of fresh cedar or spruce as a Master Carver brings a totem pole to life.
Goldbelt Tram offers two unique tours. The first is the Alaska Native Tour, ideal for those passionate about cultural immersion and eager to connect natural sciences with traditional knowledge.
